Regular Rides &
Practice Sessions

Debbie Hyder regularly co-ordinates FREE public unicycle rides. EVERYONE is welcome, young and old, on one wheel or two. In addition to the rides we try to organise a weekly gathering point for enthusiastic unicyclists to practice and share their skills. To be involved with these sessions (and regularly with the public rides) you will need to become a financial member of the Australian Unicycle Society (cost is about $40 per year). At the practice sessions we also ask for a small contribution  (maybe $2-5) to cover the cost of hire of the facilities. You must also bring your own unicycle, helmet and other safety equipment. Also bring your own water bottle. Call Debbie to buy or possibly borrow a unicycle.
Click on the “Main Shedule” button (below left) to view the dates and times of our next rides and practice sessions.

After the successful 2005 Australian Unicycle Championships in Darwin in July 2005, Debbie wishes to have more public unicycle meets so local unicyclists can continue to practice their skills, particularly their team skills for unicycle hockey and basketball. If you wish to organise a public practice session, please let Debbie know so it can be put on the schedule for all to see.

Wednesday 9th February 2005
This was a landmark day for unicycling in the Territory. It marked the start of regular gatherings of enthusiastic unicyclists to practice and share their skills with each other. Over 20 unicyclists met at the Darwin High School Basketball Courts to begin the first of many unicycle practice sessions. From 6pm-7:30 activities involved warm ups, uni-basketball, uni-hockey, trials, artistic riding, skipping, riding through hoops, gliding, girraffe unicycle riding, mini bike riding, coker riding (36” wheeled unicylce) and slow racing.

The energy and enthusiasm from those participating as well as the parents who stayed to watch was overwhelming. Participants had a whole range of abilities and showed a lot of initiative in developing their skills as well as lending a hand to help each other. What a wonderful event! Check out the Main Schedule to find out when the date and time of the next weekly session.

WE NEED SUPPORT from adults to make this session available EVERY week, please talk to Debbie if you would like to help in any way. Note. These sessions are run on a voluntary basis and are not run as classes but rather provide a venue and gathering point for keen unicyclists to practice themselves and skillshare with each other. Any fees collected go to covering costs associated with the venue and helping purchase any equipment required. * Note - these practice sessions are not yet co-ordinated for the 2006 year - please volunteer your time if possible.

Thursday 30th October 2003
Our first public unicycle ride was a great success. We demonstrated unicycling feats from unicycle hockey to trials and artistic riding and also had the pleasure of annoucing that our bid to host the next Unicycling National Championships (in July 2005) was successful. Following are some pictures of just some of the people who attended our first public gathering.
